The Porsche car manufacturers were founded by a gentleman called Ferdinand Porsche in 1931. It is a public company which has its headquarters at Zuffenhausen in Germany and is presided over by the CEO and President, Dr Wendelin Wiedeking.
In 2006 the Luxury Institute in New York awarded Porsche with the title of 'most prestigious automobile brand'. Over 500 households in the US were questioned as part of the survey with an annual income of over 200,000 dollars and a total net worth of more than 720,000 dollars. The current models of Porsche on offer include those in the Boxster Roadster range, its famous 911 as well as the Caymen and the Cayenne models. The Caymen has a hard top and has a slightly higher price bracket than that of the Boxster, whilst the Cayenne is Porsches answer to the SUV and is a mid-range price bracket of Porsche.
For many years Porsche have offered a consultancy service to other car brands and to date these have included SEAT, Daewoo, Subaru and Yugo. They have also helped Harley-Davidson with a design on their new engine. In terms of their production vehicles Porsche and Ferrari both compete in the high-end part of the consumer market but they're vehicles tend to appeal to a very different demographic. However, in the world of racing, they compete more directly. Both of these companies offer racing cars of a similar performance and both have renewed heritage in the racing world. In the world of the 'regular' consumer market Porsche has more competitors still. These include fellow german designed car Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW as well as Lotus, Jaguar and Maserati. This is not so much the case with Ferrari who has its main competitors in brands Lamborghini, Aston Martin and Bugatti.
